Description

Etouffée' is a seed-sterile grass that stays where you plant it without spreading. It blooms in mid-summer with interest lasting through November, fading to a pinkish-tan that adds winter texture and makes great cut flowers. The mounding, arching habit brings soft movement to the garden. Once established, it resists drought, heat, pests, and deer. Its compact size suits borders, containers, or water features.

Plant Care

Water

Keep soil on drier side. Drought tolerant once established

Fertilizer

Late winter or early spring, just before new growth starts. Use minimal, balanced, slow release, granular fertlizer like 10-10-10

Pruning

Only requires a single hard pruning in late winter or early spring before new growth appears.

Seasons of Interest

Lush green foliage forms a dense, graceful, arching mound, adding a soft, flowing texture to garden beds and containers. Late Summer -

This is peak blooming season. Abundant, soft, bottlebrush-like plumes in a smoky-pink hue rise above the foliage, which begins to transition to beautiful shades of golden yellow or coppery-bronze in the fall.

Dried foliage and spent flower plumes fade to soft tan and provide significant architectural interest. Persistent seed heads attract songbirds, providing a food source and wildlife activity.
