Description

Brimming with effortless elegance, Lily of the Nile ‘Dark Nebula’ offers a stunning display of large rich blue blooms without demanding constant care. These beauties thrive on sunshine and neglect, requiring little more than occasional deadheading to stay tidy. Their sturdy stems and lush, architectural foliage provide a worry-free focal point, bringing sophisticated, drought-tolerant beauty to any landscape.

Plant Care

Water

Water regularly; allow soil to dry down between watering. Drought tolerant once established.

Fertilizer

Use a balanced fertilizer like 10-10-10 or a formula slightly higher in phosphorus and potassium (potash) to promote strong bud formation and vibrant blue color. Do not use fertilizers with high nitrogen as this encourages lush green leaves at the expense of those stunning blue flowers.Apply your first dose in early spring as soon as new growth starts emerging from the ground. Follow up with a second application mid-summer to support the peak blooming period.

Pruning

Because it grows in a naturally tidy, compact mound, no pruning is necessary. Once the blue flowers fade, simply cut the flower stalks off at the base. This keeps the plant looking neat and prevents it from wasting energy on seed production.

Seasons of Interest

The plant emerges with fresh, "glaucous" blue-green foliage that quickly forms a tidy, architectural mound.

Flower buds appear in mid-summer, opening into large, globular clusters of deep blue flowers with white centers.

As flowers fade, the sturdy stems can be left to showcase decorative seedheads, which add structural interest to the autumn garden.
