Description

This compact perennial mound of silvery-green foliage produces extra-large flower stalks all season. An early bloomer, it is self-cleaning and continuously reblooms from spring to fall. Dark stalks provide a sharp contrast against vibrant purple flowers that act as a pollinator magnet. Low-maintenance and drought-tolerant once established, it is ideal for borders, containers, mass plantings, or foundation beds with little care.

Plant Care

Water

Water regularly; allow soil to dry down between watering. Drought tolerant once established.

Fertilizer

In early spring, just as new growth begins to emerge, use a balanced, slow-release granular fertilizer like 10-10-10. Do not fertilize after mid-summer as it encourages tender new growth that will be killed by the first winter frost.

Pruning

Remove dead foliage in fall or early spring before new growth emerges.

Seasons of Interest

Foliage forms a compact mound emerging in spring, quickly making way for a profusion of flower stalks that bloom continuously until fall.

Self-cleaning flower stalks bloom all summer, attracting pollinators. Exceptionally large flower stalks are dark in color, which contrast beautifully against large and prominent bright purple flowers.

Blooms continue until frost.
