Description

Dark green evergreen foliage with purple-red new growth provides a backdrop for showstopping deep pink blooms in spring. This pieris produces richer, deeper, and more abundant flowers than other varieties. Small, bell-shaped blooms cover the upright stalks, nearly obscuring the foliage and drawing in local pollinators. After blooming, this compact and tidy shrub provides a lovely, low-maintenance backdrop for summer perennials.

Plant Care

Water

Moist, well-drained soil

Fertilizer

Fertilize in the early spring, just as new growth begins to emerge or buds start to swell. A second, lighter application can be made just after the plant has finished flowering in late spring or early summer to support the development of next year's buds. To prevent frost-tender new growth, do not apply fertilizer after mid-July. Choose a fertilizer specifically formulated for acid-loving plants.

Pruning

Prune in late spring immediately after flowering as needed. Remove dead or crossing branches any time.

Seasons of Interest

Deep red-purple new growth draws the eye before a showstopping display of deep, rich pink flowers nearly covers the plant in early to mid-spring. The bell-shaped blooms on upright to slightly pendulous stalks draw pollinators like hummingbirds and bees.
