Description

Red Beauty® (‘Rutzan’) holly is an exceptional, narrow pyramidal evergreen prized for its dense, glossy dark green foliage and abundant bright red winter berries. Its naturally neat shape eliminates the need for constant pruning. Slow-growing and highly compact, this low-maintenance shrub is ideal for tight spaces, privacy screens, and vertical accents. It is highly disease-resistant and boasts strong deer resistance for worry-free care. A male blue holly, such as Blue Prince, should be planted nearby to produce fruit.

Plant Care

Water

Average, medium, well drained soil

Fertilizer

One balanced, slow release application of 10-10-10 early spring

Pruning

If needed, prune in late spring or summer after flowering to maintain shape without sacrificing berry production

Seasons of Interest

Small white flowers contrast with deep blue-green, glossy foliage in spring, providing food for polinators. New growth emerges with a reddish tinge.

Abundant clusters of red fruit cover the plant starting in summer and persist into cooler seasons.
